Started work on replacing the rear RHS bevel box a few days ago hoped to have it all finished for Camden but ran into a bit of a problem , we had the wrong replacement box so it looks like a quick trip to tims next week might have to get some other goodies while we are down there
Any way here are some pics looks like it has not been cleaned since it left service came with some spare ammo

eeeeek, there's so much muck in that bilge! It looks like the previous owners must have been 'maintenance adverse'. Did you find any spanners, screw drivers, nuts or bolts that had 'fallen in'?
Keep posting up photos of your progress.

Yes found all of the above minus spanners
the count was something like 1 x 3 inch screw driver 1 socket over a dozen nuts and bolts and 12 blank rounds both fired and unfired
not cleaned even before disposal from army would be my guess

Well after a lot of swearing and cursing bevel box is changed over now to fix all the small things we found along the way.
this is the old bevel the previous owner had been using grease not oil in the bevels and hubs, less than a cup of grease

Bearing nut has very little thread left so looking for another and about half the studs for the mud guard were broken the had been welded in place hope the army didn't do that

While its all apart I have cleaned all the grease nipples and oiled the suspension pins will have to do the other 3 corners now
most of the nipples had been painted over the pressure release on the old bevel had been replaced with a new style grease nipple some one probably didn't know what it was checked the other bevel boxes they still had release valves but all covered in several layers of paint
the PO had said they changed to grease because of all the oil leaks

Are you going to look inside or replace the LHS bevel now that you have the engine out?

Have drained the oil and spun it no bearing noise so hopefully no problems it did have oil in it unlike the other side

Yeh oohhh
finished bevel box replacement took her for a test drive great drove back to yard and transmission went bang and locked up
So the next part starts I obtained a replacement transmission from Tim quick trip to Winton and back and a couple of weeks to remove old and replace with not new but good replacement finished about 1 week before Corowa.

Well we made it to Corowa just finished the parade on 3 cylinders (ignition problems). A couple of hours at the show ground and we had a pretty good idea where the problem was/is. Points and spark plugs will be replaced soon but she is running on all 6 cylinders now with the plugs cleaned and points reset hardest to find is a intermittent loss of power to the ignition from the 12 volt control box but have that sorted with a bypass for now. Next hurdle is ANZAC day at Lawson RSL then Ironfest will try and touch up the paint job before ANZAC Day may be get some German tank markings on magnetic backing to liven things up
